Victorinox Air Purification Convertible Jacket 2008
Victorinox Air Purification Convertible Jacket 2008
Probably best known for the creation of the iconic multi-functional ‘Swiss Army Knife’, Victorinox is a company that has transferred their expert prefision in functional design across to range of industries since its creation in 1894. It wasn’t until 2001 that they launched the Victorinox clothing line, employing Donrad Duncan as the head designer. The Jamaican designer was born into a family of tailors, where he learnt the trade before moving to the US in 1980 and studying at Parsons School of Design. There was a particular focus on comfort and movement in his designs for Victorinox, with technical features that complimented the functional ethos of the brand. He is also the first ever designer to be granted the Massimo Osti Archive license, where he later founded utilitarian brand MA.Strum before going independent.
This particular piece is a perfect example of considered design with functionality at the heart of the concept. The jacket is constructed from 3-Layer Softshell fabric for optimal comfort, water resistance and breathability. The main feature is the Air Purifier system which sits in a vented chest pocket with a tube running through the chest to the funnel collar, passing purified air to the wearer when the collar is raised over the nose and mouth. There are also 2 discrete chest mesh-lined pockets, the left side has 2 velcro straps to secure the air tube. There are 2 standard hand pockets and a cargo pocket on the chest. The arms are removable to convert the jacket into a vest, with YKK lock zips for easy removal. A piece that many would regard as ‘ahead of its time’ these days.
Great overall condition with minor signs of wear. Comes with air purifier.
