Prada Sport Convertible Padded Jacket

The Prada Sport line was launched in the late 90s with the intent of producing athleisure garments with materials and shapes that assimilated the features of ‘technical mountain clothes’. The signature Prada red tag later cemented itself in streetwear culture throughout the 2000s. Only the first few seasons of the Prada Sport line were ever featured on the runway, showcasing a beautiful range of highly technical pieces that clearly separated Prada Sport from the athletic diffusion lines of its competitors. The F/W1999 season is a personal favourite of mine as it shows the perfect blend between technical and sophisticated design achieved by Prada.

This particular piece emulates the construction and design of many of the pieces featured on the runway that season, with Prada’s green signature nylon material on the exterior and polyester padding for warmth. There are 2 large storage compartments on the arms and 2 pockets that extend round the side of the garment from front to back, all for quick and easy access by the wearer. There are also 4 more compartments on the interior, along with a central zip that conceals the bag that the jacket can be packed into. Other features such as the slanted and extended hem of the jacket allow for more comfortable movement for the wearer, and the unique hood construction results in better coverage. Signature Prada branding on the hem rounds off one of my favourite pieces from what is arguably Prada’s best season.
