Prada Mainline Overcoat & Wallet 1999

Before Miuccia Prada took over the fashion house in the late 1970s, Prada had not been much different from other luxury brands with their products, solely offering a range of luxury leather goods. Miuccia decided to experiment with different materials in order to give Prada a fresh look (Leather had been the most used material by fashion houses at the time). In 1979, Miuccia introduced the first range of bags constructed from a heavy duty nylon material, which had been labelled as an ‘anti-luxury’ material. These ‘anti-luxury’ luxury bags instantly became a hit. Prada later expanded into clothing in the 90s, continuing the use of Nylon in their designs, and have never looked back.

This piece from 1999 is one of the rarest we have found and is a perfect example of how Prada was able to achieve the perfect blend of technical and sophisticated design. It is constructed from Prada’s signature nylon material on the exterior, with a double-breasted button closure. The main feature is a Prada wallet that can be secured to the interior of the jacket, offering the wearer an interior storage option as well as a fully functioning wallet.

Great overall condition with some minor signs of wear and age - slight fading to the collar.
