Prada Luna Rossa Gore-Tex Denim Bomber Jacket - 2003 Team Member Exclusive

Prada Luna Rossa Gore-Tex Denim Bomber Jacket - 2003 Team Member Exclusive

In 1997, Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli met with Argentinian yacht designer, German Frers, to discuss the development of a cruising yacht. However, this idea seemed to spiral into the creation of Prada’s very own sailing team: Luna Rossa. Prada joined forces with Yacht Club Punta Ala, with the aim to compete in the 2000 America’s Cup, which became a reality after winning the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup at their first attempt. Prada entered once again in 2003 and managed to reach the semi-finals, where they lost out to American team ‘OneWorld’. Prada’s sporting endeavours had important implications on their clothing design, as the sailing conditions challenged Prada to devlop and work with new materials and designs to create appropriate uniform for the Luna Rossa team.

This particular piece is one of the rarest made by Prada for the 2003 America’s Cup Challenge, made for the Luna Rossa team members in 2003 exclusively and never made available to the public. This jacket is constructed from the highest quality Gore-Tex materials layed under a signature Prada denim exterior for optimal weatherproofing. The jacket features a cut and fit that is similar to a military bomber jacket, with 2 exterior hand pockets, articulated elbow darts and a ribbed collar and cuffs for comfort. It also features the same signature Prada Luna Rossa plaque stitched onto the chest as all the other official team gear from that year.

Good overall condition with some very minor signs of wear and age - main flaw is most interior taped seams have been stripped (SEE LAST PICTURE) due to the adhesive weakening with age, however this does not affect the look or wearability of the jacket at all.
