Patagonia SST Wading Jacket 1998

Patagonia SST Wading Jacket 1998

Officially founded by climbing enthusiast Yvon Chouinard in 1973, Patagonia (named after the mountainous region in South America) has been a leader in developing the highest quality and most environmentally-friendly alpine products long before their modern-day competitiors. Yvon Chouinard, now 83, signed away all of the shares of Patagonia earlier this year, to a trust that will use future profits to “help fight” the climate crisis. The first products released under the ‘Patagonia’ name were the deep-pile fleeces which have become a staple for the brand and allowed them to expand further into producing jackets, trousers, accessories and more. The SST range from the early 1990s focused on developing technical wading pieces for fly-fishing, which the brand still produces today.

This particular piece has seen a lot of wear since its release, resulting in a beautiful fade across the whole piece from years of use in the sun. This makes it one of best jackets from this range that i have come across, the unique fade can never be replicated and for that solidifies its place in the 300700 archive. The jacket is constructed from gore-tex materials on the outer shell for optimum waterproofing and breathability. There are 2 large chest pockets which are accessible from the top or the side, both with another zipped pocket on the inside for protecting valuables, a large pocket on the back of the jacket and 2 zipped interior pocket. There are also D-rings on either side of the main zip and back for fishing attachments. The jacket also features an adjustable hood, hem and cuffs for better performance when wading and better comfort. The hem can also be secured further up the inner lining to make the jacket shorter when wading. One of my personal favourite pieces by Patagonia and a big favourite amongst collectors and techwear enthusiasts alike. The jacket has a short cut for its intended use so it is recommended to size up for a better fit on the length for those that wish to wear this casually.

Good condition with beautiful signs of wear and age.
