In 1984, Oakley made their move into the eyewear market, which they would go on to completely revolutionise with ground-breaking designs. The ‘Jacket’ family of sunglasses by Oakley, starting with the ‘Eye Jacket’ in 1994, aimed to produce frames that fit the face like clothing fits the body. The popularity of this range propelled the brand forward and solidified their position as a leader of innovation.
In 1998, after the initial success of the Oakley Fives but with a few complaints about the smaller frame size, Oakley took inspiration from the shape of the new frogskin frame and created the Tens, the big brother to the Fives. Oakley stated that “with extended earstems, Tens are the middle ground of cranial dimensions, but they still tip the scale for UV protection and distortion-free clarity. Low weight and high durability maintain a full measure of performance”.
