Oakley Torpedo Watch

Oakley Torpedo Watch

Oakley kicked-off the millennium by transfering their technical expertise over to the Watch market. The iconic ‘Timebomb’ (1998) was a great showcase of Oakley’s obscure design ethos and showed how they could apply their unique ‘mad science’ design language to something as classic as a timepiece. The timebomb was an instant hit, leading to several other Watch models being developed from 2000 onwards, which futher cemented Oakley’s position as a leader of innovation. One of the most iconic moments in Oakley’s Watch history was when NBA legend Michael Jordan was spotted in his 1 of 1 solid gold Timebomb, making them that much more desirable and allowing Oakley to be viewed as serious watchmakers.

The 2001 Oakley ‘Torpedo’ represented the fluid transition of distinct sculptures that Oakley achieved with
4-D, a new design language. A monolithic casing of injection-molded stainless steel is cradled by a band of advanced Unobtainium. An internal frame structure surrenders to the curvature of human anatomy to maximize comfort and fit. The sapphire crystal forms an optically pure shield above the quartz-tuned analog display. High precision Swiss movement is engineered with the accuracy of a five-jewel design for authenticity in the art of timekeeping.
