Oakley Plate Dark Silver/Black Iridium

Oakley Plate Dark Silver/Black Iridium

In 1984, Oakley made their move into the eyewear market which they went on to completely revolutionise with unique ground-breaking designs. The ‘Jacket’ family of sunglasses by Oakley, starting with the ‘Eye Jacket’ in 1994, aimed to produce frames that fit the face like clothing fits the body. The popularity of this range propelled the brand forward through the 1990s and cemented their position as a market leader of innovation.

The Plate was released in 2003, with the name deriving from the appearance of 'welded metal plates’ in the design. To create the Plate, Oakley utilised a cutting-edge technology to use ultrasonic waves to essentially 'weld' the plastic to the O-matter frame. This was the first and last time that Oakley would use the technology, but just speaks to how incredibly committed they were to their "Purpose Beyond Reason" motto. The Plate is made from Oakley O-Matter, and features  laser-etched branding on the lens. The glasses originally gained traction with Oakley fanatics due to their extreme look, with celebrities like Kerry King (Slayer) & Flea helping to bring the model to the forefront. Nowadays, the Plate has reached grail status due to its rarity, and has even been worn recently by celebrities like Travis Scott in recent months.
