Oakley 0.2 Sunglasses - 1993
Oakley 0.2 Sunglasses - 1993
In 1984, Oakley made their move into the eyewear market. Almost 10 years later, in 1993 the Oakley ‘Zero’ line of sunglasses followed on from the already popular ‘SubZero’ frames that first introduced ‘next to nothing’ technology. The Zero line were the lightest frames anyone had brought to the market and were the only collection that Oakley developed a TV commercial for.
The 0.2 model follows on from the circular lens shape of the 0.1 but this time with added opaque eye shields around the bottom of the lens that offered a shape and design that no one had previously seen. They also improved upon the earstems of the sub zero line with a slight extension past the unobtainium grips, allowing for better flex and comfort when worn and improving Oakley’s signature 3 point fit system. The Zero collection is often credited as being the inspiration and main reason Oakley would begin to explore more circular design lines for their eyewear, leading to the creation of icons such as the Eye Jacket & Mars later down the line.
