Kiko Kostadinov Jehtra Boot from 2021

Kiko Kostadinov Jehtra Boot from 2021

Kiko Kostadinov is one of the most talented all-round designers of this generation in my opinion. The Bulgarian-born, London-based designer made a statement very early into his career in the industry with a highly sought-after “Displacement” collection with Stussy in 2013 & 2015 for their 35th Anniversary, where he reconstructed several Stussy garments, before graduating from London’s Central Saint Martins in 2016. Through his eponymous label, Kostadinov displays a very unique design language that showcases a blend between highly technical design to more traditional styles and silhouettes, with exceptional attention-to-detail on the cut and fit of each piece. He draws upon a wide range of references and influences which allows him to excel in multiple sectors of the industry, lending his expertise to Mackintosh for their premium ‘0001’ line, and co-founding AFFIX where he brings a technical feel to streetwear. Some of his most notable work are his collaborations with Asics from 2018 onwards, which revolutionised the design approach at Asics and significantly raised their profile in the market, leading to Kostadinov and his team directing the Asics Sportstyle range for the last few years. 10 years on from that Stussy collab and his influence and stature in the industry is clear and evident.

These Jethra Boots in the ‘Dragonfly’ colourway from the A/W2021 season perfectly encapsulates everything the Kiko Kostadinov design approach is about - unique shapes, high-quality materials, expert construction and layering. The boots begin with a tight-weave ballistic nylon which is overlayed with grey and black wavy rubber and green/blue leather, all sitting on a Vibram sole unit. The lacing system is secured with leather velcro straps that work perfectly with the unique overall build of the shoe. Beautiful branding on the tongue rounds off my personal favourite boot of all time, which i have not stopped wearing since i got them at release. Kiko Kostadinov can do it all, which he continues to prove with each passing season.
