DSquared2 Asymmetrical Moto Jacket - F/W2003 Runway
DSquared2 was founded by twin brothers Dean & Dan Caten, who began their careers in fashion by leaving the Parson’s School of Design and launching a womenswear collection in 1986: ‘DEanDan’. They moved to Milan in 1991 and secured work designing for Gianni Versace & Diesel, before Diesel provided the brothers with the financial backing to start DSquared2 in 1994. Throughout the early 2000s they created a fusion between the brand and and popular music culture, designing outfits for music videos and tours and involving A-list stars with their runway shows. They picked up several awards in succession throughout the decade, collaborated with football clubs like Juventus (2006) & FC Barcelona (2009) to design their official uniforms and expanded the brand further with different lines. Although many will only see DSquared2 for what it is today, there is no doubt that the brand was a pioneer the playful glamour that haute couture was missing.
