Dolce & Gabbana Convertible Wool Cargo Jacket
Dolce & Gabbana Convertible Wool Cargo Jacket
Dolce & Gabbana (D&G) was originally founded in 1985 by Italian designers Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana. The pair had met in 1982, where they would join forces to establish a design consulting studio in Milan. Starting out by only producing womenswear, the brand would launch their first menswear collection in 1990. Through the 1990s the ethos of the brand had shifted as they started to steer away from the usual trends dominating the runways at the time. It was during the 2000s that the brand would really excel and achieve cult status for their utilisation of military influences throughout their work. The 2003 runway colection especially contained heavy military influences with cargo pockets on most pieces, metallic hardwear and bondage straps which all seemed worlds away from the couture pieces the brand had started out producing.
This particular piece is from a later 2000s collection which is a perfect example of how D&G had settled in their militaristic couture style by this period. The jacket features a wool constructed with padded quilted lining for warmth. The material has a contrast between the thick wool and the use of a mesh-like overlay to divide the section. There are 2 large cargo pockets which each have a bondage strap over them for security. The arms also have storage compartments which can be zipped off to create a vest. The jacket also has a beautiful bomber-style cut with a large hem that keeps the jacket locked in at the waist. Rounded off with subtle Dolce & Gabbana branding on the neck line.
Great overall condition with minor signs of wear - no major flaws.
